Introduced this week, these vibrant jerseys give a lot of teams’ uniforms an unexpected twist – while others stay pretty faithful to their longtime colors.
As a lifelong sports fan, uniforms and jerseys have always been of great intrigue to me. While just about every kid is fascinated with the first team they see that has vibrant colors (hello turn of the century Arizona Diamondbacks), uniforms have also evolved greatly over the past 30 years – and a look around the pro sports leagues is perfect evidence of that.
Uniforms in the NHL have always been relatively stable. Much to my chagrin, home teams have won their colored jerseys at home and white jerseys on the road since the 2003-04 season, with alternate jerseys sometimes interrupting that cadence.
Alternate jerseys themselves are still relatively young, being introduced into the league initially for the 1995-96 season before becoming much more widespread by the time the new millennium rolled around.
While the NHL previously launched a “Reverse Retro” jersey program that gave each team a refreshed, throwback-inspired look, the Hometown Remix designs are even more off the wall – sometimes deviating from a team’s color scheme entirely.
Although I certainly don’t love all of these jerseys, this is absolutely a step in the right direction for the NHL in efforts to spice up their uniforms game – something we’ve seen to a large degree with unique jersey designs each year in the NBA, while MLB teams have taken on a new look with the City Connect uniforms.
These jerseys provide an exciting new addition to the wardrobes of many teams, while giving new and old fans alike a new set of merchandise to add to their collections – with no teams complaining about a new, expensive jersey hitting the shelves at team stores.
After my first look at all of the Hometown Remix jerseys, here are the four that stood out to me as my favorite.

1. Colorado Avalanche

A slight but tasteful deviation from the already cool colored burgundy and blue, this white jersey takes on inspiration from the Colorado state flag while going all in on ice blue accents on the sleeves – which include mountain peaks towards the shoulder patches.
While this jersey bears little resemblance to previous Avalanche uniforms, it is unmistakably and unapologetically Colorado – a solid approach for a franchise that recently celebrated 30 seasons in Denver since their mid-1990’s relocation from Quebec City.
I’ve admittedly always been a sucker for ice blue, and the Avalanche found a way to knock it out of the park with a white jersey that avoids any semblance of being boring.
2. Florida Panthers

I don’t think anyone should be surprised about a vaporwave-inspired website praising a loosely vaporwave-inspired jersey – and despite my general disdain for Miami-area sports teams, the Panthers absolutely passed this test with flying colors, quite literally.
Taking inspiration from their longtime hockey stick and palm tree alternate logo, a newly-designed alternate logo takes center stage in front of a vaporwave-styled sun and a flamingo pink backdrop, with the jersey’s main color looking like it fits right in with the decor of a house in The Golden Girls.
After several iterations of the Miami Heat taking some notes from the beloved black-and-pink Miami Vice scheme, the Panthers perfectly executed their own unique interpretation of a uniform that exudes the energy of Miami – even if they play out in Sunrise.
3. Pittsburgh Penguins

This jersey is so off-the-wall, and I love it because it’s the perfect mix of a completely novel idea crossing paths with inspiration from the Penguins’ own uniform history.
Taking on a hint of the powder blue uniforms the Penguins wore at the start of their franchise history and revived again in the late 2000’s, these jerseys honor Pittsburgh without sticking to the tried-and-true black and gold – paying homage to the city’s pivotal role in the pop art movement of the 1960’s.
A wonderfully executed marriage of dark and light shades of blue, this uniform takes advantage of half-tone textures and layering near the logo to make one of the more compelling uniforms one can come across. I’d have to imagine this will be among the better-selling Hometown Remix jerseys.
4. Seattle Kraken

I’m a Kraken fan so I’m a bit biased on this one, but I’ve been hoping for pretty much this exact jersey since the team began play in 2021. While I’ve always loved the primary ‘S’ logo, the Kraken’s alternate anchor logo is easily among the best in professional sports – and this uniform lives up to what an alternate jersey should be.
Putting the anchor logo front-and-center over a dark blue top – seemingly a bit darker than their normal home jerseys – while having the primary logo on the shoulder patches is a classic alternate design that was perfectly executed here by Seattle, with the old-style laces near the collar adding a great, wintry touch.
While I also wouldn’t have minded the teal taking over as the primary color on these jerseys, I think this is the better look relative to what the rest of the league rolled out. Although many clubs did emphasize pure vibrancy, the Kraken aimed to refine their look with a uniform that doesn’t really deviate from the established color scheme while still creating an entirely new appearance.
