While much of my writing on this site has revolved around different experiences at sporting events across North America, I’ve yet to touch on the travel required to make it happen.
In addition to collecting physical media together, another pastime that my wife and I share is our mutual love for traveling, and a general willingness and urge to see things we have never seen before.
Although I’m certainly the sports fan between the two of us, one of our favorite things to do when we’re out of town together is to attend local sporting events, getting the chance to take in a unique stadium or arena while immersing ourselves in an environment that is usually predominantly occupied by area locals.
One of our more long-standing travel missions is to see every ballpark across MLB, having made tremendous progress on that front in recent years – with a handful of parks slated to be crossed off later this week.
As we spend the week in Southern California getting our first experiences at Dodger Stadium, Angel Stadium and Petco Park, I began to think about our long history of travels since we first got together in June 2019. Perhaps due to my fascination with geography or my lifelong penchant for lists, I began keeping track of every city or town we’ve traveled to together in the past seven-plus years – and it’s served as a fascinating checklist for seeing new things.
To be included on this list I have kept, we simply both need to be stopped together at a given location within a city – excluding places we’ve only driven through, but counting places that we’ve stopped during road trips and other travels – even if it’s just a gas station.
In addition to being a frivolous thing to keep track of, it’s also been a joy to see us gradually cross off many of the country’s bigger cities while having also had a few opportunities to travel internationally – something I had not done at all before 2022.
Thus far, our travels have taken us through 31 U.S. states, four different countries, 148 U.S. counties and 315 cities. Here’s a look at where we’ve gone:
