In the first tier list on The Rubber Match, I rank the mainline console Super Mario games by my skill level in them before attempting to complete 100% playthroughs of all of them here.
With Monday marking the start of my attempt to stream 100% playthroughs of every console mainline Super Mario game, I figured I’d preview my futile quest by taking a look at my skill level in each game I’ll be playing.
My tier list does not include the mainline handheld titles, as I will not be streaming those as part of this series, while it also omits Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island and Bowser’s Fury, which will not be included in my playthroughs.
Additionally, my list considers the Super Mario All-Stars ports for the first four games in the series, as I will be streaming the All-Stars versions of the games, primarily due to ease of setup to still play everything on original hardware.
Finally, this list is based on how difficult I deem the entire game to be – recent Super Mario games have done an excellent job at including a comprehensive juggernaut of a final level that dwarfs everything else in the game when it comes to difficulty, so I didn’t solely focus on final challenges.
Here’s a list of the 15 games I’ll be playing through as part of this series, in order:
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
- Super Mario Bros. 2
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- Super Mario World
- Super Mario 64
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Super Mario Galaxy
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii
- Super Mario Galaxy 2
- New Super Mario Bros. U
- New Super Luigi U
- Super Mario 3D World
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Here is how I see myself faring across the aforementioned games:
