While 45 players have recorded at least 10,000 rebounds in regular season play, only eight players have reached the 10,000-assist plateau.
Not long after looking at the seemingly unbreakable steals record by John Stockton, I figured it’d be worth diving into the even more unbreakable record the Utah Jazz point guard set during his career.
Active from 1984 until 2003, John Stockton still holds the all-time NBA records for total assists and steals – with his assists record being particularly untouchable.
Stockton’s 15,806 career assists put him well over 3,000 helpers above the next-closest player in the recently retired Chris Paul, who finished his illustrious career with 12,552 assists of his own.
While Stockton is on an island of his own, others who have reached even 10,000 career assists are in extremely elite company.
Only eight players in NBA history have ever reached the milestone, with only LeBron James having also recorded over 10,000 rebounds in addition to his career assists, which now sit at over 12,000 – making him one of just four players to reach that mark.
Although it’s fair to assume that several other players will reach the 10,000-assist milestone in the future, one shouldn’t expect too much extra company to be joining in the coming years. James Harden, the closest active player to the benchmark, is still over 1,000 assists away – while no other active NBA player has even 7,000 career assists.
Below is a full look at the eight players to have reached the lofty milestone, with the active player in LeBron James italicized:
