A marker of both remarkable longevity and sustained excellence, just 15 goalies in NHL history have recorded 400 or more wins – including just one active goaltender.
With the NHL season underway and offenses around the league off to a quick start once again, I started to think about the longevity of goalies while watching future Hall of Famer Sergei Bobrovsky get his first action in with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
A two-time Vezina Trophy winner with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Bobrovsky went on to become a franchise goalie for the Florida Panthers, winning two Stanley Cups with the team before signing a three-year deal with Toronto this offseason – a team that has long been in need of a rock-solid goaltender.
Now 38 years old, Bobrovsky’s resume is a product of his longevity, standing alone as the only active NHL goaltender to have already eclipsed 400 wins, with his 456 career wins ranking seventh all-time – having already passed legends such as Tony Esposito and Terry Sawchuk.
Of course, goaltender wins appears to be a rather unbreakable record, thanks to the storied career of Martin Brodeur. I remember watching Brodeur record his 552nd career win to dethrone Patrick Roy in March 2009 – what I did not know at the time was that Brodeur still had another 139 wins left in him, retiring in January 2015 with 691 wins.
Although Bobrovsky doesn’t appear poised to dethrone Brodeur, he will undoubtedly go down as one of the finest goaltenders of his generation, already accompanied by some of the greatest to ever do it in the 400-win club.
Of the other 14 goalies that are eligible for Hockey Hall of Fame induction, only Curtis Joseph and Chris Osgood are not members – with Jonathan Quick and Marc-André Fleury likely awaiting swift induction once they are eligible.
As far as other active goalies in the mix, Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning is the closest to the milestone, entering the 2026-27 campaign at 370 wins while still being just 32 years old. Connor Hellebuyck, a three-time Vezina Trophy winner and Hart Trophy winner who is intent on leaving the Winnipeg Jets, entered this year with 345 wins.
As of the fall of 2026, here’s a look at the 15 goalies to have recorded 400 or more wins in the National Hockey League:
