When was the last time each MLB team had a pitcher win 20 games in a season?

Though previously a common sight and sign of durability for a pitcher over the course of the regular season, 20-win campaigns have now become exceptionally rare.

Even at the beginning of my lifetime, it would have been unthinkable for a pitcher with a 10-10 record to win a Cy Young Award, as Pittsburgh Pirates’ phenom Paul Skenes was able to do in 2025.

Though the era of taking wins as the end-all, be-all stat for pitchers is long gone, it’s hard to think of a metric with more history and legacy than pitcher wins, particularly when considering older generations of the game.

There’s a wide variety of reasons that wins have dropped off, with the stark reality that we likely will never see another 300-win pitcher – a benchmark that was viewed to be the pitcher’s equivalent to 500 home runs in a career – both of which were seen as guarantees for admission into Cooperstown.

Four-man rotations became five- and six-man rotations over the years, while bullpen usage has skyrocketed across the league – particularly within the last 15 years. Not only is it quite rare for a pitcher to total 20 wins in a season now, it’s also uncommon to see a hurler even pitch for 200 innings – a mark that multiple pitchers in each rotation would achieve in past generations.

This trend has laid itself bare in recent seasons, with no pitcher reaching the 20-win milestone in each of the past seasons – making Spencer Strider’s 20-win campaign in 2023 the most recent instance of a pitcher accomplishing the feat.

Of the league’s 30 teams, only the Colorado Rockies, who began play in 1993 and have long dealt with a hitter-friendly environment, have never had a pitcher win 20 games in a season.

With wins taking a distinct backseat to other stats such as Fielding Independent Pitching and Adjusted ERA+, here’s a look at the last time each team had a 20-win pitcher:
