The 2025 NFL season has officially concluded, with the Seattle Seahawks dismantling the New England Patriots in a wire-to-wire performance to win Super Bowl LX in emphatic fashion.
The victory serves as a dose of sweet revenge for the Seahawks and their fans, who were on the wrong end of a heartbreaking loss to the Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX, while also marking the franchise’s second Super Bowl win in franchise history.
Seattle also spoiled some potential history for New England, who were aiming for an NFL-record seventh Super Bowl championship, with this season marking the franchise’s third Super Bowl appearance that did not involve Tom Brady.
With a win that will undoubtedly cement this season’s Seahawks defensive unit as one of the greatest of this generation, Seattle joins over a dozen other franchises who have won multiple Super Bowl titles – an accolade that does not include NFL championships won in the pre-Super Bowl era.
While New England still made history by becoming the first team to appear in a dozen Super Bowls, they remain tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowl victories with six.
Super Bowl LX marked the fourth appearance in the year’s biggest sporting event for the Seahawks, previously losing in 2005 and 2014 while defeating the Denver Broncos in a 43-8 landslide in 2013, winning their first Super Bowl in the game’s only edition to be played outdoors in a cold-weather city.
The 29-13 Seattle victory also makes quarterback Sam Darnold a Super Bowl champion, a remarkable career comeback after a tumultuous tenure with the New York Jets, several years as a backup quarterback and playoff disappointment with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024.
Darnold’s win inarguably leaves the Vikings and their fans questioning the franchise’s decisions, as the team parted ways with the quarterback after a 14-3 regular season before he went on to sign a three-year deal worth $100.5 million with the Seahawks.
