After my most recent addition to this list during a weekend trip to San Jose, here’s an updated look at the venues I’ve seen games at.
Beyond the surface-level appeal that sports brings in terms of excitement and interest, an often-overlooked aspect of sports fandom that many look to dive into is travel.
With dozens of teams across the U.S. and Canada, sports fans are able to take in the action in a wide variety of settings that can easily be paired with a short vacation to a new destination that wouldn’t otherwise be traveled to.
As a lifelong sports fan and geography nerd, this intersection has always fascinated and interested me. While the city-to-city and stadium-to-stadium differences are most apparent in Major League Baseball, where field dimensions differ in each park, each stadium and arena is unique, exposing visiting fans to a variety of quirks and fan traditions.
Though I’ve still never attended an NFL or MLS game in-person, I’ve attended over 200 games ranging from the MLB, NBA and NHL to Division I college football and basketball and the WNBA. While I was spoiled in this regard by growing up in the Chicago area and having easy access to some of the country’s most recognizable teams and venues, my wife and I have since made checking out new arenas and stadiums a part of our travel to new places.
Similar to the lists I’ve published to correspond with our media collection, I intend for this list to be updated over time as a checklist of sorts for the venues I’ve gotten a chance to check out a game in.
This list will include current and former MLB, NBA, NHL, WNBA, Division I FBS football and Division 1 men’s basketball venues. I will list each venue under the league/s I have seen a game in, so a few arenas will show up on here twice.
I’m also only including sporting events on this list, so my freshman year marching band trip to the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis will not count towards this total.
The stadiums and arenas I’ve attended are listed below alongside their respective home teams, sorted by the league I’ve seen a game in that venue for. Inactive venues will be marked with italics.
